New unit will coordinate liability reinsurance and commercial risk expertise for U.S. health care providers and their insurers.
Aon (NYSE: AON) has launched a North America Healthcare vertical within its Risk Capital business to serve U.S. health systems, hospitals, physician groups and the insurers that cover them. The company named Nick Gaudiosi as North America Health Care Industry Leader, Risk Capital, to lead the new vertical.
The vertical will bring together Aon’s health care liability reinsurance practice and commercial risk expertise for U.S. health care providers. Its reinsurance practice serves U.S. insurers covering physicians, hospitals and long-term care organizations.
Gaudiosi brings reinsurance leadership to the role
Gaudiosi joined Aon in 2023 after serving as president and chief operating officer of American Healthcare Providers Insurance Services. He has led Aon’s health care reinsurance segment as senior managing director since 2025, supporting the development of its medical professional liability reinsurance practice and team.
In his new role, he will continue to guide the practice’s strategy while leading the broader health care vertical.
Providers and insurers face growing financial risks
Alternative payment models carrying downside risk covered 28.7% of U.S. health care payments in 2024, according to the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network’s 2025 Measurement Effort. These arrangements expose providers to a greater share of financial risk traditionally carried by health plans and payers.
Aon also cited rising liability costs, social inflation and large verdicts as pressures on health systems and their insurers.
The new vertical is intended to give clients a coordinated view of these exposures and their financing options. Gaudiosi said combining reinsurance and commercial risk expertise would provide clients with “one integrated view” of their risks and a strategy for financing them.
Aon said the vertical will help clients quantify the connected risks facing providers and their insurers, decide which to retain and which to transfer, and manage them across insurance, reinsurance, captives and alternative capital to reduce volatility.
