SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Bentley Systems (Nasdaq: BSY) announced that Seequent, The Bentley Subsurface Company, has signed an agreement to acquire Flow State Solutions, a leading provider of geothermal simulation software. The acquisition strengthens Seequent’s capabilities as a comprehensive subsurface software provider for the geothermal energy sector.
Flow State Solutions is known for its geothermal reservoir, wellbore, and surface network simulation software, which helps developers and operators better analyze geothermal resources, optimize asset performance, and improve well productivity. By integrating Flow State Solutions’ Volsung software portfolio with Seequent’s geological modeling technologies, the companies aim to deliver a more advanced end-to-end reservoir analysis solution for geothermal projects.
The combined technologies will allow detailed geological models created in Leapfrog Energy to be directly utilized within Flow State Solutions’ simulation environment, enabling a more complete understanding of geothermal assets and reservoir performance.
Industry leaders are already leveraging both platforms to enhance geothermal resource analysis. Simon Webbison, Vice President of Exploration and Resource Management at Ormat Technologies, said the acquisition brings together two technologies that Ormat already uses to better understand geothermal assets and predict operational performance. He added that the combined expertise is expected to further support the company’s geothermal operations globally.
Graham Grant, CEO of Seequent, welcomed the Flow State Solutions team and highlighted geothermal energy’s growing role in addressing global energy challenges. According to him, the acquisition enhances Seequent’s ability to provide advanced subsurface analysis tools that deliver a more complete understanding of geothermal asset performance.
Flow State Solutions co-founder Jonathon Clearwater, who will join Seequent as Technical Domain Expert for Reservoir Engineering, said the partnership combines Seequent’s expertise with Flow State Solutions’ geothermal modeling capabilities to support the renewable energy transition and improve natural resource management.
The acquisition also reinforces Bentley Systems’ broader strategy of supporting infrastructure and sustainable energy projects through advanced engineering and subsurface technologies.
