Fluor Awarded Feasibility Study Services for Anglo American’s Woodsmith Mining Project in the UK

Fluor Corporation has been awarded a feasibility study contract for Anglo American’s Woodsmith mining project located in North Yorkshire, England. The company stated that the undisclosed contract value will be recognized during the second quarter of 2026.

The Woodsmith project is one of the world’s largest underground mining developments and provides access to the largest known polyhalite fertilizer deposit globally. The project is designed to extract naturally occurring low-carbon fertilizer through deep underground shafts and transport the material using a 37-kilometer underground conveyor tunnel to Anglo American’s processing facility in Teesside.

Harish Jammula, President of Mining & Metals at Fluor Corporation, said the Woodsmith project has the potential to become a long-term and sustainable source of critical fertilizers for global agricultural markets. He added that the award reflects Fluor’s technical expertise and its ability to safely execute large-scale and complex mining projects.

Construction activities related to tunnelling and shaft sinking are already in progress. Once fully operational, the Woodsmith mine is expected to produce approximately 13 million tonnes of polyhalite fertilizer annually.
